Gender Equality is Taught
My thesis researches the reasons to make necessary changes in the elementary school curriculum and provide more options to support gender equality and minimize gender biases in the classroom. What I will design will be accessible for elementary students to understand, helping them learn more about gender equality from a young age to give them the tools and knowledge to carve their own life path. Supporting the growth and opportunities of young girls and giving them resources to further their knowledge of female scholars, figures, and what paths they can take outside of typical gender roles will emphasize the importance of supporting their aspirations. The elementary school curriculum should be supportive of any endeavor a child wants to pursue while providing a safe space for young girls to openly participate in classes and be empowered by their peers. Teachers should be providing the tools and resources for young girls to understand the obstacles they will face as women and the differences they can make in the future.
